A video satire about being black and the perceptions of black by other blacks and white society they interact with. Not so much about being racist, but  how we take cultural shortcuts and write each other off by focusing on race than the person. The biggest lesson and where humor and offense shows up (often at the same time): People who think there is one universally understood way to be black. Or understanding or portrayal of a culture at only surface level (I’m looking at you Tyler Perry).

The Dear White People video is up and gaining buzz as the author, Justin Simien is trying to get funding to make a bigger movie. Reminds me a little of Spike Lee’s School Daze that tackled the issue of racial strife between blacks of the different skin tones. Find out more go go donate at http://dear-white-people.tumblr.com/
