CNN host Piers Morgan, who also edited Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World in the mid-90′s, appears to been caught on tape speaking on BBC radio that he ran stories based on phone hacking while he was a tabloid editor in Britain.
The Daily Telegraph found the BBC radio show “Desert Island Discs” where Piers Morgan was asked what it was like for his paper and for his reporters scavenging through people trash and tapping phones. Morgan’s reply,
“Not a lot of that went on,” He says. “A lot of it was done by third parties rather than the staff themselves. That’s not to defend it, because obviously you were running the results of their work. I’m quite happy to be parked in the corner of tabloid beast and to have to sit here defending all these things I used to get up to, and I make no pretense about the stuff we used to do.”
If this is true, Morgan has some explaining to do to British investigators as well as his current employer CNN where is denied on air having no knowledge of the scandal during his term.
