He shouldn’t be. He’s an idiot. Not Hitler.
“Legitimate Rape” Congressmen Todd Akin, his staff and family are receiving death threats. Or in abortion terms, some people are threatening to abort the fetus Todd Akin in the 213 trimester. If those people who are making threats are really pro-choice, remember, Ted Akin certainly has the right to control his body too…from being dead.
“Legitimate rape” (as opposed to fake rape) Todd Akin is an idiot. Not Hitler. Big difference. “Smart” progressives-liberals (I’m assuming this isn’t anti-abortion conservatives making the threats) should know that. But sanctimonious thinking seems to be clouding that judgement and justifying dangerous hate and threats. Like the executive who berated the poor Chick-Fil-A employee because of an idea expressed by the company’s CEO. A belief, though I disagree with, did not seem to trickle down to hiring or serving customers. Even if the idea was anathema, like thinking pedophile thoughts, simply thinking or saying it without imminent action or intent still doesn’t warrant death. I’m disturbed by people moving to violence and death threats to shut down people that express ideas that offend. As Ted Akin will tell you, that kind of shut down is only for sperm in rape cases.
It really makes such people no better people- perhaps actually worse-than people like Todd Akin. As nutty as he is, he isn’t planning a coup. He’s pushing his “ideas” through the political process. A forum where his ideas can be evaluated and stopped by voting against him. That’s how the political process rolls.
In fact, that one of the bigger purposes of our political system. It’s job is to replace real violence by giving people a place to fight over differences that actually doesn’t threaten lives or a coup. Those who threaten, whether its against Akin or the “water the tree of liberty with blood crowd” thumb their noise at that process.
Don’t like Todd Akin? Use the political process to “kill” Todd Akin’s ideas. And leave it at that.
